Mandalas that listen to the inner voice, integrating the present self with the true self.

What is Phenomenological Introspection Mandala Art
My Phenomenological Introspection Mandala Art does not aim simply at drawing beautiful mandalas.
It is a practice of quietly savouring, within the heart, what has happened in the outer world — listening to the faint dissonances and tremors that arise there, and rendering that process in stippled dots and lines.
There is no finished form decided in advance. In the process of descending deep into the self, the personal subconscious at some point connects with the universal collective consciousness, and reflects the essence of truth. This resonates deeply with Carl Rogers’ notion of congruence and with the felt sense of Focusing.
A mandala is, by its nature, a device for awakening to truth and essence. That, I think, is why it suited my way of drawing — introspecting on what happens. What passes through me as I work is my own personal experience; yet the deeper I go inside, the more something universal seems to appear in the work.
I also hold sessions grounded in this process of self-congruence. Through dialogue using my works and an original deck of mandala oracle cards, I support clients in noticing their inner voice and integrating the present self with the true self.
Everything I do runs on one thread: listening, dialogue, and self-congruence. Through drawing and dialogue, I accompany you on a journey through the inner cosmos, toward an encounter with your own essence.

Works
Everything begins with a dot, and ends with a dot. A single dot holds the whole, and the whole is held in a single dot. Each one is placed in time with the breath, and with intent.
All artworks are created entirely by hand, without the use of AI.
4Process
From introspection, a mandala rises
There is no finished form decided in advance. A mandala comes into being through a process something like this.
I
Savour
What has happened in the outer world is quietly felt and savoured within. The small dissonance that arises there is treasured — not hurriedly explained, but allowed to resonate, gently, inside.
II
Wait
Gazing at the paper, lines and dots begin to appear. They appear and fade, appear and fade again. The inner voice always speaks softly, so I listen — and simply wait.
III
Place
There is no sketch. Letting go of intention, the hand follows the dots and lines it sees, placing each one in time with the breath. Where to stop, I ask the mandala itself.
IV
Return
Placing dot after dot, I descend deep into myself, until the personal subconscious at some point joins the universal collective consciousness and reflects the essence of truth. The finished mandala is a mirror of me. Gazing at it a while, the present self and the true self are quietly integrated.

About Chikako
I draw the inner world. Rather than composing with the head, I give visible form to the unseen processes of the heart that well up naturally through introspection.
Through the works, I hope to create a place where each viewer can look into their own interior and converse with their true self.
On 30 April 2023, the last day of my medical leave, I drew a mandala for the first time at a mandala art workshop. In March 2024 I left the teaching career I had kept for twenty-two years, and I have been drawing without pause ever since.
I used to live by fitting myself to others, reading their faces. I believed that wealth meant acquiring money and position. Only after falling ill did I finally realise that this was not the life I had wanted. During my leave, walking outdoors, I was healed by the beauty of the flowers at the roadside and by the stir of the wind — and saw how long my senses had been dulled.
When I asked myself how I wished to spend the life I had left, I was at last able to decide to leave teaching. That decision brought me here.
In 2025 I held my first solo exhibition, and in 2026 my first submissions were selected for the 100th Kokuten and the 82nd Genten exhibitions.
Now I feel that I am living my own life, because I go inside myself and hold a conversation there. For me, the works are something like a record of the path my life has taken.

Commissions & Workshops
From a single commissioned work to pieces for a space — all of it grows from the same root: listening, dialogue, and self-congruence. Enquiries are always welcome.
Commissioned Work
Through conversation, the light of a person’s soul is drawn into a single mandala. It feels less like drawing than being drawn through by an unseen hand. As a personal talisman, or as a gift for someone dear. From 15 × 15 cm.
Workshop
Time to face and converse with oneself through drawing. A finished piece is not the goal; what matters is caring for yourself, and befriending yourself, along the way. Pattern samples are provided, so no experience is needed — I am there beside you, as a companion. Up to five people, about an hour and a half.
Introspection Session
Grounded in the process of self-congruence, dialogue with my works and an original deck of mandala oracle cards supports the integration of the present self with the true self. It is not a session that teaches. I simply become your mirror, and open a door to meeting your true self. The answer is different for each person.
For Spaces
Original and reproduction works for salons, clinics, inns, cafés — spaces that ask for quiet. May a moment surrounded by mandalas become a small doorway, for those who gather there, back into their own interior.
